My sister-in-law framed hers with a 3 inch wide layer of sand and then various shells glued into the sand. It looks wonderful.

maybe stickers with border design, or decorated Styrofoam 2x4s which you could either glue or double side tape it.
You can measure the mirror and go to any framing store and have the frame pieces cut for you. That way you can select whatever style you like.
Try and frame it with metal ribbon
