There's a reason everyone comes to Hometalk! These Hometalkers have seen it all and done it all. I found several projects on round or rectangular mirrors that could be a good jumping off point for your imagination:
This hometalker built a starburst around her round mirror. You could adapt it easily to an oval:

(Sorry, I'm on my cell and can't make a tiny concenient link for you.) I've also seen this done with sticks about the size of paint stirring sticks.
This woman put plastic stencils on her mirrors. You could cut them to fit your oval shape:

This woman glued and grouted tiles around her mirror. It'd take a little trial and error to cut the tiles to a reasonable angle, but if you do it informal, using different lengths, colors, and widths, it should give you a funky look all of your own:

Keep in mind that if you first mount the mirror on to a larger backing, then add decorative materials, the overall weight of the mirror is going to be heavier than it is now. You will likely need additional hardware or supports to hang it on the wall.
Hi Renee, You could give them the antique look and add a large ornate oblong picture frame over it and paint it and internal wall to suit your decor Or do the same with a plain frame(Or use Skirting Board Molding) and colour the inside of the frame (Wall) or wallpaper it, and paint frame to choice . Or You could look out for Secondhand Oval frame to use. Or Use Mirror Tiles .Or Mosaics or Glass Buttons from Dollar store to stick around them. Use anything you have around including drinking straws to make a Sunburst look........Have fun !
glue seashells around it
Hi Renee, You could try searching thrift stores for a picture frame or framed mirror with the dimensions of yours an retro fit it, use wire and create a woven metallic lacy look, or use those tiny tiles or flat marbles to tile around it. Maybe wide lace or even a wicker basket cut to shape around it. I hope this gets ideas going! Let us know what you do!
You could hot glue anything around it. If you want a beach theme, you could hot glue small seashells and overlap them for layers or you could get tile and hot glue those or those pretty back splash tile pieces
You could put some ship lap on that wall and paint it an accent color and then hang the mirrors. Ship lap doesn't have to always be painted white! It owuld add some texture and interest to that wall.
Find a larger rectangular frame with mat. Or fake a mat with foam core from the dollar store.
The inside of the frame should be At Least 3inches larger than the side to side dimensions of your mirror (which you might choose to raise and center by a couple of inches)
There are great buys at Michaels when they have their sales. Or yard sale finds of interesting mirrors are always a bonus.
Take your mirror down and center over your new frame/mat
on a tabletop. Decide if you want to cover it with tiny mirrors (craft store) or draw dramatic stripes with a sharpie for a contemporary look, cover the mat with amazing paper from the
“Art Paper” section at the craft store, or jewels from the dollar store.
Hang the large, now-exotic frame with mat first, then hand your oval mirror separately inside it.
This could be a great fun, and not terribly expensive update. Keep in mind too that you can always hang this mirror vertically, rather than horizontally, if you have potential taller vain visitors.

Make A Mirror From A Picture Frame
I think a purchased or made rectangular frame that allows the mirror to float inside would look fabulous. It wouldn’t even need to be attached unless you wanted to. The open element is an updated yet classic look. If it is for a bathroom vanity or will be used with other pictures to make an arrangement on the wall, I would consider turning the mirror vertically. That helps to make the walls seem taller and less closed in. One of my favorite mirror projects was for a bathroom. I stained a 5” wide board that I mounted across the bottom third of the mirror with L brackets from underneath just outside of the mirror edges. The board can extend past the mirror by many inches. This shelf can then hold decorative items or pictures. I did this in my guest bathroom and it is unique and people always make comments about how much they like it.
you could glue ivy, or maybe some shells around it
