What are some modern decor diy ideas?

I enjoy diy but it seems most items on here are shabby chic, vintage or distressed. Is there a specific area for modern or contemporary diy?

    Most of the posts here are shabby chic. There is no separate category for modern

    "Modern" decor is more straight lines and sleek finishes... geometric shapes, metallic finishes... the "Sputnik" light and "Urchin" accessories can be considered either "retro" or modern.

    Dmj1262, here is what I found under "modern decor" here on Hometalk. Click on the site below. Also, I found the second link, listed as "contemporary. Click on it for more ideas.

    You could also use geometric wallpaper or fabric to update tables, drawer fronts. Remember to use the right glues and finishes.

    Use different dye colours on plain drawers. Or use modern stencils.

    Change knobs on units to update simply. Just a few ideas to mull over.

    I am so glad i went over this older Hometalk site to find this interesting question, that as a specialized decor & buildings Artist/& tradie of over 35 years have wanted to ask pretty much the same thing. Myself & team members that work with myself on various usually unusual jobs, with requests to create brilliance using 85% plus all re-cycled materials ( though none would know),& we Do create masterpiece properties, for each & every/& any strange spaces within any grounds, have found much the same type of complaint that you are stating...10 points to you though for actually saying this, i just get frustrated, especially with certian things’ that are just really a form of copy from each other. I with my associates will not put pix up on the grounds of the argument that ‘we’ did not create our works// against what is the majority seen here. *Sometimes on a correct day one might find something quite good,& for its totality, not just some idea that its good. After saying this some ideas are interesting though absolutely by no means completed to say it looks completed, yet this is stated often that the project is.. then after further looking/ reading one just barely notices the ‘finished work’~ yes often distressed. Personally,& agreed by others in the actual work side of our lives, we find we give more advice on how to create someones half idea & even more importantly give much safety advice.

    If you don’t have ‘thick skin’ then dont show any of your good work~ when i got interested in this site a while back i did show finished results made from good thrown away materials,& i was sent a couple of very rude messages; one stating that those who work in these field should not be allowed in on a dyi community. My sin~ i explained to someone where they went wrong with placing their idea of a splash back to the kitchen area required, then proceeded to grant good/& free direct advice to fix & how to get their look they wanted. I realize all is a risk but nobody deserves brutality,& it was, from another we dont know because they made mistakes & was asking for help.

    Sadly my friend, i keep an eye on this site mainly for some related work purposes, though i don’t bother to ’give’ so much now knowing the community is happy with their own points of view,& know that We Who Do will just get bagged.

    It would be interesting to see the site runners looking for the Real certified helpers, offer them payment for doing much of the right thing~ including informing new trends to try & along with always the added information on how to keep safe when using various products// down to mixing products..& much more as i guess you probably do know.

    There is another site, though it runs differently you might find areas where its useful for you; i have found some areas where it has been in the past though heads up, it is somewhat more the high end but again coppies happen there. If you are capable of expressing new ideas in the league it could be very well worth your while..{Art therapy i believe its called.}

    Anyway i just felt compelled to write as it to has touched a nerve with myself.. I wish only the best,& try to keep a ~smile~
