What can I do about these ugly Kitchen Lights?

Hello, I'm trying to figure out what to do with these ugly fluorescent lights in my kitchen. They are regular 4' shop lights and they placed them on either side of the skylight in the kitchen.
I have thought about moving them inside the skylight and putting a clear plastic panel with a frame around the skylight to hold it in place but then the sky probably would be blocked by that panel I don't know, does anybody have any ideas? icon

Looking straight up into the skylight.

Looking towards the sink area.

Here are a couple of ideas.

Move the light fixtures to the top of your cabinets. I did this when I remodeled our kitchen. The light is a softer indirect light.

Eventually we added under cabinet task lighting. The first version was small florescent fixtures. They were replaced by 12v LED strip lights. The light is much more even with less heat.

I would rotate them 180 degrees and replace them with LED's which give better light. Check out Home Depot they have very attractive LED's at very reasonable prices.

Consider replacing one of them with a 3-light type of fixture (short drop down depending on space) that will add to your kitchen decor and hopefully you can remove the other one. I love skylights and it is a shame to distract from yours.

Thanks. I hadn't thought of removing one. That's a good idea!

    Try some track lights.

Like Danielle said you can replace them with track lighting and patch any holes that the new lighting doesn't cover up.

Love the track light idea because it will cover the area alreadyy covered by the current ones, or patch, paint and relocate track lighting. My husband took them out of my mother and father's kitchen and relocated them into the dark garage. Then put in canned lights in the kitchen, but that's a whole new project!
