It has been many years since I have had a plain wall! LOL. You could paint it in an interesting way. I love pictures on walls, also clocks and china. You could hang fabric, esp quilts. You could "wall paper" a wall with interesting papers. Yesterday at our town swap shop we found two drawing pads with pictures of nudes in them. They aren't great art but they would look terrific "papering" a wall. You could hang things that pertain to interests/hobbies you or your husband have.
Put painter's tape (blue or green) on the wall. Make stripes or random pattern. Go from ceiling to baseboard. Paint each section a different color. Or paint them all the same color. Pull the tape off and you have a finished wall.
If you do stripes, try painting every other stripe with an enamel paint in the same shade as the other stripe. Then you have a plain stripe and a shiny stripe. Looks like expensive wall paper!
Get 3 pieces of art that "speaks" to you. They can be cheap posters, things you find at a thrift store, but bring creativity and color into your life!
Same thing as far as frames - you can make simple ones, paint existing ones, etc. Move the 3 pieces around to see where they look nice. If you have a furniture layout you like, work around that. Hang them at the RIGHT HEIGHT!!! That's the biggest mistake people make aside from getting things that are too small/large for their space. Artwork should be at eye level.
3 nice pieces of art on the wall keeps your place from being too 'busy'. You can add color to your space in a small dose and give yourself tings to look at while you daydream.
