How can I paint this cabinet to fit in with my farmhouse-style decor?

I'm not a farmhouse decorator but a lot of blogging friends are. They generally will use a lighter color chalk paint over the top of the stained wood, then they'll distress the edges with sandpaper once it's dry. You can change out the hardware if you want but you could also paint and distress them as well.

It is funny that why I love the modern farmhouse look I hate the distressed look. Guess that is because I grew up poor and the distressed look was wear and tear and not something we wanted. LOL

I don't have an answer but I have the same cabinet that I am looking to repaint. I'd love to see what you choose!
