What is your question about pine cones?
I'm going to assume you want to know some uses for pinecones. You can make a bowl of sweet smelling scents by adding cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg etc, to a bunch of pine cones you have picked up. . . could also add pine needles etc. Close the bag and store away and in a month you will have a very nice room deodorizer. Or another idea which I got from a magazine years ago is to decorated pictures like the one below.
The best use I've found so far for pine cones is lining the bottoms of my flower pots with them for really light and great drainage!
I don't know of any prep but I guess just clean them off before bringing inside.
The problem with pine cones is that bugs and spiders lay their eggs in them so just brushing them off won't get rid of the eggs. I use two different methods. One is to soak them overnight in a 2:1 water and vinegar solution. Then you can either place them outside to dry out for a few days or bake them in a 200 degree oven for two hours. I have also used a 2:1 water and bleach solution to make them lighter in color for projects. The bleach will also kill off any of the eggs. Pine cones will close up when they are wet but once dry they will return to their regular shape. Baking them does make the house smell, but I have collected pine cones in my yard many times and discovered later that the eggs hatch and they are full of unwelcome guests. Hope this helps and good luck with however you decide to use them after you clean them.
