I used a pointed metal punch to get through some copper cups. Worked like a champ. Make sure the surface underneath where you are punching is ok to have some holes in it too. A scrap piece of 2x4 worked for me.
you can use a drill with small bit, an awl, a hammer and nail. all of these things will make a hole but the bottom will be sharp. that will need to be filed smooth so no one is hurt.
a small, metal (specifically for drilling metal) drill bit works great. I use one to drill through old silver plate silverware for windchimes and it works great
I would use a small nail and and a hammer. I use this method to put holes on my mason jar lids and it seems to work fine for me. Just be careful in how much force you use to create that hole. Hope this helps!
