You should remove the mirror first.

no. I did not remove it. It was glued to the wall without a frame. I decided to use cove trim bec it's simple. Then I dry fitted to make sure that it fit. I then predrilled the trim nail holes (used white vinyl trim)used white construction adhesive and put a couple of drops n the wall side and then screwed to the wall. I did need a couple of shims because the wall wasn't perfectly straight. It looks great!
The adhesive keeps it flush with the mirror and the nails keep it tight to the wall. Make sure that those nails are going into the wall and not the glass mirror.
It all depends on how the mirror sets on the wall?
You can paint a faux frame depicting your decor, you can find an old ugly couch picture and frame the mirror. Get thin baseboard and adhere to the mirror.
