Look on the "free" section on your local craigslist.org. There are always pallets available on there in my area. Be prepared to spend a lot of time to disassemble, its harder than it seems it should be. Look on Pinterest for ideas on how to disassemble. Also, on Pinterest are articles on what to watch out for...some pallets are treated with chemicals that you DON'T want on wood you will have inside your house.

Contact a masonry contractor (bricklayer or stone mason). My husband always has a lot of them as that's the way the stone is transported. Or maybe a local stone supplier? I gave some away through freecycle when someone placed an ad, asking for them.

I just got a whole pickup bed full of "scrap" wood from a local cabinet shop. I know it's not "pallets" but I got everything from little blocks to long boards. I ended up giving my pallets to my neighbor (got my pallets from the grocery store my husband works at)
