I am turning my wood shed into a space to hang out in year round. I’ve just finished insulating The joist spaces and I’m wondering if I need to put up drywall before I put wood planks on the ceiling? I’m just outside of Philadelphia, so it gets hot in the summer and down tpo freezing in the winter. Here are a few pics! Love any advice on the topic. 🌸
Here’s my little “tiny” house from the outside. Such a labor of love!
And here are a few pics of the newly insulated ceiling my daughter and I completed last week.

To me it looks as if it is ready to be boarded over - no need to do anything further.........Have fun..........

I have a cathedral ceiling in my living room. I put up tongue and groove boards, primed, caulked and painted them. Within two years the t/g had separated and in places Ihad mildew. This happened two more times in the next three years. I was told by numerous people that I should have put up Sheetrock before installing the t/g lumber. Finally just tore t,g out and just installed Sheetrock. From my experience I would definitely put Sheetrock first. Hope u have better luck than me. pete Norris

I would just install the planks. You need to nail into the joists. Insulate the attic too.

Yes you need to put up drywall. It is a fire barrier. About 2 hours before a fire can spread. A moisture barrier and adds to the insulating factor. Maybe less with the wood planks but it's still needed. If it was just a shed then it would not be required. Think of all the plastic sheds out there.
