How to remove backing on mirror to etch?

Hello all, wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to remove-the backing on a mirror, I have a stencil to etch a logo into the glass so I can light it from backside of mirror. Commercial grade mirror with either a black paint or film

We didn't remove the backing. Used a dremel and etched thru the paint on the back. After that we spray painted a second color onto the back of the mirror. The result was a mirror with a oriental dragon. It looks great and this was about 10 years ago.
I'm sure if you call a glass and mirror place they could help. There must be some kind of chemical to take it off. Sorry I'm not much help. :(
Thank you everyone for advice, I took advice and ordered a dremel and also found a paint stripper that works but not sure yet if will eat at the vinyl stencil
Since you are wanting to light it from behind as you said, you'll need the backing finish on the mirror removed. Let us know if the dremel o paint stripper works.
You can tape your stencil to the backside, and use a fine sand and sand blaster. It is not very expensive to rent, and gives professional results.

I Googled your question and This is what I came up with. It might be an easier process. After taking the backing paint off You have the choice of leaving what you want as a design clear or etching it so it is translucent. If you want translucence you will need an etching medium. If you want it clear you will have to make a stencil for that and keep in place with a removable adhesive, or take the time and use painters tape.I have Googled that for you too. After that you will have to repaint the "silver" back on the mirror. Below is that process too. Good luck :)

Hello,
Sounds as if you should just start with a sheet of plate glass instead!
