You could set brush a lighter color on them. Or a couple colors to lighten them up! Or use a sponge
Easiest and cheapest way is to do a whitewash. A mix of white paint and water in a 50/50 mix applied with a brush uniformly will do the trick. You can use a damp cloth to catch any runs or drips and to also remove a little paint on random bricks to create a more natural look. I use a flat white paint. Lots of tutorials online and on Hometalk. Best wishes.
Last year I painted the z brick in my kitchen with regular old interior semi-gloss paint in white. I used the semi-gloss as I wanted to be able to wash that wall as it is beside the stove. Works great and brightened up the room.
