Singer Sewing Machine Conversion to Desk - could use your thoughts!

Do you think I should have used legs for this desk? I built the top from a solid maple antique farm table and used iron hinges and pull to compliment the black base. Would you keep them if the iron base was switched out?

It looks great as it is! I wouldn't do anything to it.

I agree! Absolutely gorgeous! I think the hinges add a nice touch even if you switch out the legs, but I love the way it looks with those legs!

I wouldn't change anything, I love the vintage look! Thank you for sharing! Where are you going to put it in your home?

If you do anything more to change this it will lose it's original look, My opinion is to leave it as it is as it is lovely and still retains the look of the old nostalgic original purpose while incorporating the new use as a desk.

The only thing I would change, if anything at all, is crackle glaze the white with a black crackle. But it is beautiful!!

Looks beautiful. I have an old sewing machine base that was made into an occasional table and it's beautiful.

I did this using just an old table top. Sometimes I would rock the treadle as I worked- I think your friend will love it!

I'd leave it exactly as it is. Love the mix of the black base with white desk and wooden table top. The hinges and draw pull bring it all together. In my opinion I wouldn't add black crackle to the white as one suggested as I think that look will date too quickly.

I think it's awesome just the way it is! It has inspired me to do that with my own treadle base (which I've had for 6 years). Do not change a thing!

I think it looks nice! Personally, I would probably distress the white a little to blend in with the black sewing machine bottom.

This looks very nice and I like that it is functional. I took a singer base and sanded it down then painted it forest green. Later, I took an old up-right piano apart that was otherwise junk and saved the board under the keys. After much sanding, staining it burgundy, and clear coating it at least 10 thin coats, It looks great and my wife loves it. I enjoy repurposing things rather that just throwing them away.
