Can I put a plywood floor directly over a hardwood floor?

I want to put a new inexpensive floor. I don't want to use laminate. I have plywood cut into planks used as flooring.

Bna: As jaswan, it can be done, but is there something wrong with the hardwood? Also, this will raise the level of the floor and could present a problem at doorways.
