Damage to hard wood flooring- what can I do about water damage?

I have wood flooring. During the winter I watered my plants. I didn't realize that water damage was acuring . I have big black spots where the pot were setting. I really need help on this matter.

  • The back spots are typically surface mold. Easy to fix, I would use rubbing alcohol to remove the top layer immediately followed by a good scrubbing with Murphy's Oil Soap then dry and then a shine with mineral oil to recondition the floor.

    If they are hardwoods, you can lightly sand off varnish first. Then try a bit of wood bleach using a foam brush to see if it will lighten up the wood again. You can do many applications until it is light enough. Then re-stain with a wood stain to match floors and put a top coat on. Mask off the area, using clear contact paper. Get those plastic saucers for your plants, I like the ones on rollers.
