Yes they are expensive. Just shop around and see what you can find locally. A good carpet or rug shop will have options too, and maybe for less money. The site I provided was for you to comparison shop, (they do have excellent products and have customer service), and there are many other retailers. Now that you know what is available, you can keep an eye out until you can find one in your budget.

You can use double sided tape to hold in place but then you will have residue on the carpet.
They make some anti slip material, rubberized, to put underneath. I would go with large pieces.,
