How can we raise the ceiling in our guest bathroonm?

We are going to update a 1968 bathroom. New tub shower combo, toilet, vanity, lighting flooring. Currently has a 7 foot ceiling with fluorescent lighting. We 'd like to raise the ceiling and remove the fluorescent lighting replacing it with pendants over the van ity. Need suggestions for converting the lighting.

I'm no builder or DIY construction person, but based on what I've seen on home improvement shows, unless you (1) have a dropped ceiling installed lower than the original ceiling that can be removed to gain your extra height or (2) sufficient attic space to reframe a taller ceiling without tearing off the roof, you'll have to tear off the roof and reframe the short portion of the house. Was the bathroom a later addition or a converted back porch area? If you have to reframe and rebuild a portion of the roof line, you have to be careful about proper pitch, sufficient heft to carry weight load, etc. In my opinion, if you don't have experienced construction people in your family doing the work, hire a remodelling contractor to do the work after checking the company out thoroughly to make sure it's a reputable company that does good work.
If you’ve no electrical experience, please hire someone who has this experience.
Essentially you’ll need to have the existing ceiling boxes turned into junction boxes and run the new Romex through the ceiling joists to new boxes.
You should upgrade your bathroom exhaust fan to a 70 CFM low sone and energy star unit. Consider moving it closer to the tub/shower if it’s too far from there and get a unit rated for being close to the shower. Some of them have heat lights and or night lights in them. As long as you’re spending all this time and money on the bathroom, buy a really good combo fan/light/heater and vent it outside.
What kind of ceiling do you have? Drop ceiling or what?
