Well if it's not your house don't touch the carpeting just have them put in writing what is under the carpet and that way they will have to be responsible if they claim hardwood floor and it's plywood. Or you can ask them to show you. If it's your home and you don't want to make a mess just in case it's not what you were hoping for them find a corner or any place that will be hidden by a sofa and gentle lift it up but remember that there should be a tack strip to hold carpet down so don't poke your fingers wear those heavy duty work gloves. Of and it's more than likely shoved under your baseboard so don't wreck that cause it is noticeable.Helpful Reply -
