I plan to put down a plywood floor, but need instructions on how to burn it to bring out the right markings and how to finish it.

My father would use a small blowtorch passed slowly over the surface of plywood to bring out the markings...he called it making zebra wood !

Use the heat not the flame of a propane torch. Sweep the torch over the plywood to get the look you want. Sweep the floor down to remove any ash. Seal with at least three coats of a water based polyurethane. Have a bucket of water ready just in case any resins in the plywood flare up. Practice on a scrap piece of plywood to get the feel of it.
