Sounds like there is a residue on the floors. Try cleaning them with white vinegar and water
We have had hardwood floors in our 7 different homes and have used a lot of HW floor products over the years. We stopped the steam mop when it started blistering off the finish at the seams on a new traditional oak hw floor installation.
The past two years we have been using the BONA mop and solution and we're very pleased with the results.

Sounds like there's a build up of the product. Try using Murphy's Soap and water. Should help.
drying the floor as you clean also helps. using an old towel or a dry dust mop.
