
Huge acorn. What kind of oak tree makes such huge acorns?

I think it is a Burr Oak. The ones "planted " by squirrels come up sometimes.Probably takes awhile, but I have found little splings in my flower beds.Helpful Reply -

Thank you ALL for your help!!! I had never heard of the Burr Oak, but I do plan on planting this acorn & see if it might sprout & grow. In the meantime, I'm reading up on the Burr Oak to learn about it.Helpful Reply -

I've seen all different types of acorns in our region and have never given any thought to which tree produces what type or another acorn. I'm not sure where you live.Wwive in northern Wisconsin and I found out that most seeds you should for a week or so and then plant , it give seeds new life and makes them feel like they've went thruA winter cycle and I've had old seeds grow and give me beautiful flowersAlso thanks for the added infoKathyPS how do I save ideas I want to try ?I'm new at this!!Helpful Reply -
