I have roots from my tree showing. Should I add more dirt to cover??

I would put a low border around and add soil and mulch

I would put a large circle of bricks or cement blocks around the tree, and then fill this area with dirt, and plant flowers, or grass. Be sure to trim the lower branches, to give light to the grass, area, that you want to grow more grass, or flowers. Best wishes, J.

Making a bark mulch bed might be suggested, or planting some groundcover. Sedums pachysandra and vinca do well in these areas in my planting zone.

You need to check to see what type of tree it is. Some trees will die if these roots are covered.

Janet, I know exactly how you feel. I thought at first, that I didn't plant the tree deep enough, but it is the tree, it just does what it wants. I haven't made a brick circle around it yet, but I plan on doing so. a great reason to “ check with an arborist or even your local extension office BEFORE planting trees and shrubs”....above ground roots are normal for most maple varieties and you can’t remove them or tree expires..
