Lavender thrives best in hot dry climates. Try another plant.
I live in NC, too, and my lavender is fine even after moving it here from TX, I keep it in full sun and don't water it as much as my other plants. Mine are still in pots.....I'm hoping when I put them in the ground they'll continue to thrive.
I'm in the upstate of SC and always lost mine, too. Until I just plopped one in the ground, in full sun and totally ignored it. I never water it. That was last spring and it is doing really well. I think benign neglect is the key;)
There are MANY varieties of lavender. Find one for your particular climate. I had this problem, myself. Generally, they like sips of water and good drainage and lots of sun.
I live in a hot humid area also. I put the lavendar in pots, which dry out fast. This seemed to help.
Thank you for your help. Have one in a pot. and one in ground now. Cross my fingers and hope for the best.
