New Plants.......New questions

Question

I received a few new plants and I have tried to research them and it seems to me that each web site contradicts the other so I am going to ask here. The tag on this one says it's a 'Snow White' Hemigraphis alternata-( HEGHEO1 ?) The tags tells me absolutely except growth rate is Fast. Should I remove the leaves that look dead?

This is a variegated variety of a waffle plant 'Common name'  will grow into a nice full
cascading plant.  Can be used in hanging basket.  Takes lots of water, bright shade.
No sun.

Yes snip off the dead leaves as the plant concentrates on the dying leaves too much therefore causing other damage. You may want to check its roots to make sure that it is not root bound. I do this every spring and if there is too much root you can carefully snip off the excess root try not to cut the main one. You can take the root ball down to half replant it in some fresh soil and a larger pot because you already know that it is capable of being a large plant. It may be droppy for a couple of days but make sure you water it when you replant it. Hope this helps.

should I cut at the stop of stem where the leaf ends or at the base where the stem starts?

Yes, always remove the dead leaves. Just be careful to not remove the tiny ones around them, as they are the babies. I would also re-pot this into a larger planter; one that you can still carry, and use better soil. I LOVE PETER'S SPECIAL...a blue crystal type powder, that you put into water to feed indoor and outdoor plants. It's inexpensive, AND, it lasts FOREVER!! Your new plant would really benefit from this.

Looks like Darwin's thought- waffle plant is good-I had a ' prayer plant' a while back and it looked a lot like this one.

Kristy, you may want to be aware that your new plant is on the Poisonous Plant list.  If you have young children or pets with a taste for plants, you might want to place it out of reach.

Your plant looks like that because it has been allowed to dry out and then revived with water. It will continue to look like this until new leaves have formed to replace the ones that have been damaged. To remove the damaged leaves just cut them off where they come from the storm. It will soon replace them but at the top. Causing it to look leggy. After it is grown for a while you can cut it back and it will just branch out and form more leaves. But I wouldn't do it until it has gotten a bit larger. It needs to  recover in a nice new pot with fresh soil. This plant likes to stay moist and will show when it needs water. Make sure to get good potting soil that has a lot of Peat-moss and dirt in it. I like miracle grow with the time release fertilizer in it.

I just purchased snow white waffle plant 2 weeks ago, and its dying!

All the leaves have dried and fallen off. Is there anything I can do to save this?
