What's going on with my rhubarb?

This plant is over 50' from one that just does great year after year. I water them the same and try to do everything equally. No matter, when several weeks in to looking really great, one or two leaves start turning red, and keep going till they are dead. others follow? WHY

Could be the soil pH level.

It is a fungus. Discard the plant it is not treatable

could be several things. One the soil isn't rich enough. Two it could be a fungus. Three just to big of a plant. If you really want to keep it take a few samples and pictures to a local nursery. A long with a sample of the soil.

I agree with Janet. It sounds like a fungus. Pull it out and get the roots out too. Sorry. It happens to all of us.

  Odd, another person said it was uncurable. The plant goes to nothing by the end of summer, but starts up again come spring. Since all the soil from the successful, for 30 years, plant, which is HUGE, is the same, I doubt its soil.
  Then a couple years back I took leaves that had turned red into the Montana State College Ag department, extension service, and they could NOT determine the cause. They thought it might be to much water????? I pretty much reject that.
  
  Any more ideas from anyone will be appreciated.

  I meant that you could start over by replanting in another place.... and I agree with you, it doesn't really sound like too much water!
