Your plants may have frozen because they were most likely incorrect selections for your planting zone, were not mulched, or were in pots. Plants in pots should generally be 2-3 zones lower than that in which you live, to insure their survival.
Olivia, is correct And what type of pool, assuming above ground. That will be no doubt, warmer for some time, whe your cold, freeze comes. Plants need to have a good frost here in MN, and ground start to freeze, before we cover with leaves ,tons of beds at the house. That is my best guess.
Your weather, cold temps are so much warmer, then here, and our fall weather, Indian summer, we can get shorted on, like last year. Really early cold, and snow by 3-4 weeks. Not much of our typical clean up, mowing, multiple trips to compost station. Lol, and bedding all my gardens. I lost too many, winter hearty plants this year, sad cought off guard!
Good luck
