Are you still in CA? Your growing conditions will dictate what will work best for you. Contact the local county extension agent for advice best suited to your specific needs.

If you have lots of light, almost any plant will survive. Just keep them out of direct sunlight.

Picking the right plants is all about matching the plants original environment. If you have lots of light you will need to avoid tropical jungle plants that like semi shaded darkish, warm, moist atmospheres like umbrella or rubber plants, bromeliads, Lillie's, palms etc. The deeper green and larger the leaf, the darker they prefer. Variegated leaf (ones with yellow or coloured veins, spots etc usually hint at their tolerance for a bit of bright light.

You could try figs (ficus), dracaena Charlie, star sansevieria, aloe, yucca, jade/money tree.

I hope you are happy in your new home after the terrible loss you suffered in the fire. Xxx
