Can I plant tomatoes now inside and expect them to grow in pots?

Seeds have to be started in seed starting pots with seed starting soil.Once the plant is big enough then you can grow it in a container. You must have at least 6 - 8 hours of full sun

If you want to replant them in the ground. Plant them about 6 weeks before your expected last freeze of the year. That depends on your zone. You can ask a local garden center person what the approximate date is.

It may be a few weeks early... depending on where you live. A 6-8 week head start would be about right.

i think it depends on where you live. In the northeast, I have started tomato seeds in mid Feb. They are good and sturdy by May for outside planting.

I would wait a little yet, perhaps start them about 1 month before you can place them outside without any danger of frost

the tomato seed will sprout a bout 6 weeks from planting, then you let them get about 4 leaves, and condition them to out side once the danger of frost has passed. check on when your last frost usually occurs...just google last average frost date for "fill in zip code" tomatoes planted in containers need a container that will hold 5 gallon of potting mix, and at least 12 inches tall for a good root structure. you can put them in a sunny area, or 8-10 hours of full spectrum light ie a "grow bulb"

there are 2 types of tomato seed determinate -determined to grow all at once- good for canning, then the indeterminate ones -cant make up their mind when to flower or fruit and will produce until frost.
