I have a Privet tree with two different leaves on the same trunk.

What is the best method for killing grass around trees?
Hi, I would like to know how to kill the grass around the base of a tree without harming the tree itself. Any information is greatly appreciated, thank you.
Hi Carolyn,
Without much ado, I would guess your tree has had a grafting done at some point in its history. The only other thing I can think of is there are 2 plants groing there and have combined to appear as 1-your Privet tree.
It looks as though someone grafted another type of tree to the original trunk. My grandfather used to do that with different types of apples, so a non-fruit bearing tree should not be a problem.
Have no fear. You could be dealing with a graft, or, on many privets, newer leaves are a lighter color and mature to a deeper green. And, by the 'fall' of the leaves, yours looks a bit thirsty.
It means you are lucky!😉
Many thanks to all who responded to my question and I hope Linda is correct !
