Hi Bill, Try mixing one tablespoon of Epson Salt in a gallon of water. Pour it on the soil at the base of your plants. Then water as usual. The extra water will help the roots receive the E Salt. This process puts enzymes in the soil and plants (veggies or flowers) flourish with it. You can repeat every two weeks.
My dad used lots of well-rotted goat manure. Asparagus loves heavy feeding.
