Add sand until the soil flows thru your fingers.
Enrich the clay soil with mulch. Mulch is the answer to any faulty soil. Do often... spring and again in fall and keep it up faithfully.
I dug out a very large area, added in peat moss, manure and top soil with just a little if orig soil.
I garden with blackland clay - it's a challenge but sand, animal fertilizer, direct compost and natural debris do wonders. Going to share a few articles you may find helpful.

I've used alot of lime on clay soil by digging holes and pouring about a cup in each hole. it helps to soften it up, takes a few weeks, then I added mulch, with a shovel and mixed it up as deep as I could.
