How to care for a young apple tree that had a limb rip?
Our apple tree produced apples for the first time this year. One branch tore down off the tree from the weight of 30 plus apples on it when we had a heavy wind last evening. I am shocked. What do we need to do to help the tree heal where the branch ripped off or should we let it heal on its own?

If there is anything left of the branch on the tree cut it back to about an inch of the main trunk. Coat the end with shellac or wax to prevent rot and disease. If it tore off flush just coat it to protect the cut.
