I have the same problem. I was disabled for 3 years, first with a broken arm and then heart surgery. doctors said take it easy, plus you can't do much using only one arm. i now have honeysuckle bush all over along with a few poison ivy. I am 77 so can't do this myself so am going to have someone cut all weeds and then i can paint the stubs with Tordon. this way i can control where the herbicide goes so it does not kill my peonies, roses and other plants i ant to keep. if it is just dandelions, etc, paint each plant with a herbicide like vinegar and salt mixed with Dawn to hold it on the leaves. as their seeds sprout, you will have to treat each plant. then seed the bare areas. as for weeds, you will always have them as long as there are plants in the area to spread seeds. this is an on going problem unless you want dandylions, etc for food or medicine.

If you live in an area where you do not have severe freezes then in the spring or whenever you see it on sale purchase several strips of St Augustine. Cut them up further with an old kitchen knife into smaller pieces. If you are able dig or scrape a small divet of dirt to set the small pieces level with the ground surface. Scatter them about the area. When you are done with that spread a bit of fertilizer over the whole area. Water that area well and deep. Do that and the little sod pieces wil send the roots into the soil and the next thing you will see is runners coming out of the pieces and they will spread by themselves and fully cover your area. I did that with a 100x100 foot area here in Texas and it took a year but after that year I had a great lawn and it even grew into a large shaded area.
This is an awesome fix and easy on the pocket. I am here in Florida. Definitely going to try it.
