Kill roots of pomegranate trees

Had trees removed but keep coming back up from roots that were left. There more like a bush size An I keep them trimmed back but would like to kill roots an get rid of them completely.

Cut them off kind of close to the ground and paint the cut with a weed killer. It gets to the roots quicker, but may need a couple of doses to really kill the roots. Make a fresh cut each time. By painting it on, you are avoiding getting any grass or plants nearby affected.
