I'm still looking fo4 what paint to go with. I am doing quite a few diffe4ent planters and I'm looking for the cheapest way to go. Spray paint will be to expensive for the amount I'm doing

Valspar paint & primer gloss spray paint. I paint most everything in my yard. After paint is dry you seal it with clear gloss. You can find cheaper spray paint but they run & don't have true colors

http://craftylittlegnome.com/2011/08/08/how-to-make-inside-out-tire-planters/ this is more for the photos of the turning process than the cutting. Unless you have VERY VERY old tires, you won't be able to cut them with a "knife" - you will need a SERIOUS power saw - jig saw, circular saw, or saws-all and blades that can handle cutting through metal (as most newer tires have steel cables running through them, and many older tires are what used to be called "steel-belted radials" - not sure if that term is still used, I just remember my dad always ordering them for his truck). As for the paint, I'd think spray paint, at least for primer, would be your best bet - as it'll get into all the little crevices in the tread, and if you make sure it says it bonds with rubber on the label you shouldn't have trouble with it. Go slowly, and spray multiple light coats instead of going at it too heavily, so it doesn't run. Patience pays off with spray paint! :) Good luck, and can't wait to see pictures of your versions!!

I would think an acrylic paint would be best. It would retain the color longer. Cute idea.

I don't see how the saucer can be the top of the tyre really I mean I don't doubt you you have done it...ill get there im just about finished a frog im doing...ive done a few swings and ive just been putting of the tea cup due to the saucer but ill do it...thankyou
