How can I keep my dogs away from my tomato plants that have the cages
The dogs ate almost all my cherry tomatoes last year.
Plant them 18 to 24 inches apart. They seem so small when you first plant them but they can get huge.
go with the 24 inch spacing...better air circulation.
actually they should be further apart to allow for more air circulation.....https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/vegetables/tomato/planting-tomato-plants.htm
If you have room for more than 24 inches, go more. They will get bushy and tall. My mini tomatoes use the regular tomatoes when they get to tall, to keep themselves off the ground, or go to the fence. They will somewhat support each other by making a canopy when they outgrow the tomato cages.
At least three feet apart so that they have some air circulation which will help to prevent mildew problems. When you plant, squeeze a couple of sheets of newspaper into a ball, soak in a pail of water and then place in the bottom of the hole. This acts like peat moss and helps to keep the tomatoes from cracking due to moisture content changes during hot weather.
get a plan in place to support the vines...tomatoe cages, trellis, 1 pole method, have you checked how to remove the suckers and how to prune the plant?
