    Hi Yarn miss,

    Wood shims come to mind.

Amazon also has peel and stick Styrofoam tiles, they can be painted and cut.

Back to the basics! A roll of Contact paper may do your whole backsplash. And Contact now comes in an amazing variety of styles. Even the dollar stores have knockoffs, too. From red bricks to iridescent triangles, have some fun with that pension. I do! ☺️

Hi again, Yarnmiss! I’d like to give it a try.

      1. At a Dollar Tree, look for windshield sun guards. About three of those could be cut with scissors to fit a large backsplash area.
      2. At a home improvement store, go to the back near the wood shop. Ask a big discount on several short boards left from someone else’s order. If you have your measurements, they can cut the boards to fit your backsplash. The stain or paint the wood, seal it with water-resistant polyurethane ($4 at Walmart), then use wood glue to stick it to the wall.
      3. Peel off the old Contact paper. Use GooGone or something similar to get the residue off and sand and scrub the wall clean. Paint the backsplash with two coats of chalk paint. Make your own with a quart of paint with a chalky substance added in—at least half a cup—like Epsom salts, plaster of Paris, or borax. Seal the paint if you think it will be getting wet a lot. Ask in the paint dept. for miss-matched paints and pick out your favorite.
      4. Back to Dollar Tree. Look at the rolls of gift wrap and the largest gift bags. Find a pattern you love and spend $2-3 for the paper or bag. Glue them to the wall, cutting to fit. Glue lace or another trim over the seams. Spray with several coats of poly, drying in between coats. Florals, stripes, polka dots, and other lively patterns work best in a smallish area.

There you have it for tonight! Oh, I had one friend who used mirrors so she could see what was happening behind her. She said the mirrors were bright and pretty, but they were impossible to keep clean! Ask for more ideas if you want them! ☺️
