Just use the bottom half, get roller wheels if you want it movable, and add to the bottom, sand and repaint to match your kitchen, apply some kind of top, we did a metal top, some like butcher block, others like a quarts top or granite on the top. It is not hard to remake a hutch bottom half into an island. If you can paint and use a screw driver to apply 3 rolling feet you have it made!

Use the bottom half to make your island. You will have to figure out how big you want the top to be. You could put a sheet of plywood on top of the hutch. If you want the top to be smaller than a sheet of plywood, you will cut to size. Use spindles or corbels to support over hang if you want to use in conjunction with a couple of bar stools. You will also need to decide what kind of top you want. You could paint and seal the wood or maybe wrap some stainless steel on the top. A lot of choices. I hope this helps.
