I have stainless steel backsplash in my kitchen...I want to change it

I want to change it out. Some tell me to take it down, fix problems on wall, sand, then put up my new backsplash, others said put new over existing, but to clean it throughout, rough the surface then put new over stainless steel. Small area, but big project for old lady, which is best way? Advice would be appreciated.

I would remove it completely and replace it with what you want. I would be worried that the stainless would not be easy to 'rough up' enough to guarantee good adhesion for the new

I, personally, would remove the stainless steel backsplash first as it will be harder to adhere a new backsplash onto metal. The step by step removal of stainless steel, then repairing and preparing the wall for a new backsplash will be easy enough in small projects. Good luck!

I agree! Remove the stainless steel. What ever you put on needs a solid base to adhere to just like the steel did.

There are lovely plastic ceiling tiles that can be used as back splash, and just mount with construction glue. Since they are light, this could go right on your stainless.

Thank you for the suggestion. Worked about 90 minutes just getting one three foot area down without tearing down the wall board behind it. Thinking the stainless steel is up there with liquid nail.
