We did the same thing. We found inexpensive metallic backsplash at Lowe's. Other home improvement stores probably have them too. They come in sheets that look like tiles and can be cut to fit the size of the wall. They go on easily and come in copper, silver, or gold color. If we can put it on, any one can.
Available at any Home Depot or LOWES - you can do this yourself!
repositionable contact paper would be my suggestion
