I want to seal my stone fireplace

I have a field stone fireplace and the stones look dull. I would like to apply a sealer to keep it looking clean and wet looking. We occasionally use the fireplace. Thanks!

There are several coatings that will shine up the stones on a fireplace. The first rule is to clean the surface completely to be sure the new finish adheres AND stays on. To clean the surface well means wire brushing and possibly an acid wash to remove efflorescence. One coating that has been used forever is water glass (sodium silicate). Sometimes a very good cleaning is all that would be needed to improve the look of the fireplace. When using a sealer such as Glamour Coat, a satin finish is preferred over a high-gloss.

I would use Guardz by Zinsser after you give it a good cleaning

Use a High Gloss Sealer, may need more than one coat.
