How about using old doors to screen the pool area. Our Habitat Restore always has a huge variety of old doors. Todays Hometalk has an excellent example. You could leave them plain or go all artsy on them.
A nice laurel hedge would be very private, as would a row of arbor vitae.
Pinterest.com should have lots of ideas for you
If you have an existing fence or can build a rudimentary frame around the areas of the pool you want to screen, a roll of reed fencing material comes 6 foot tall and 16 feet wide at Home Depot for $24; you can attach it with wire ties or zip ties. You can find this and slightly more expensive bamboo fencing at big box stores and Walmart, also from lots of online vendors. Pays to shop around for best deal.
