What should I use in Between Cement Pavers....?

I am trying to decide, what is the best to use, between concrete, paving stones---- sand, stones, gravel...? These will be laid on a small area, on clay soil, where drainage is key! Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!!

I'd personally use pea gravel
