I struggled with this for years. I finally got tired of spending $$ for the seeds to overseed.I found afordable dense shade commercial grade seed @ Menards. It grew so much thicker than any of the others I tried.I also climbed the tree and pruned as much of the new growth shoots off the main branches as I could to let a little more sun get through. ¥Helpful Reply -

I live in western WA, too. My neighbors gave up and planted daffodils instead. A beautiful sea of yellow. No maintenance..Helpful Reply -

I suggest violets. Grass is not the only solution to shady areas. Violets will grow nicely in shade and bloom beautifully in the spring, they don't require mowing.Helpful Reply -
