grow impatience in between the rocks. They like shade and can get to be big.
Where are you? Azaleas love to live under trees like this if the climate is right.
you could plant wildflowers or try Encore azaleas which bloom twice a year or try Knockout roses but they need sunlight for 6 hrs a day
A big bed of Phlox flowing down the hill in the middle! Then, maybe some Hostas, they love shade.

Perhaps some dwarf red maple trees?
If it were my yard I'd find out what plants were native to the area, less maintenance for one thing. If you are wanting to plant perennials, plants that come up every year then you have many plants to choose from. Foxgloves, Black-eyed Susan, Hens and Chicks are short, Snapdragons, Iris, all these plants will multiply. Annuals, in most areas they only live one year and some of them are Impatiens, Petunias, Marigold, Begonia, etc.
Why?
Paint your door and shutters red and your trim a gray-blue.
Azaleas would look great.
