I need a small tree that won't block the view....

Is there a small tree that I can plant in front of my dining room window that will not block the view? I can't put in one that will get too large as the space is rather small. And I don't want the view blocked. We seem to find fault with every tree we think of.....We have an ornamental plum there now, but it's too big and dying! I live in Bakersfield, CA... Bakersfield California is in Hardiness Zones 9a and 9b TY

small, takes pruning well, has flowers all summer, brings hummingbirds, drops leaves in winter, definitely drought tolerant once established.
