I would like to make outside prettier.

I really wanted a cottage/farm style home but long story short, ended up with a 60’s split level. I would like to add ‘curb appeal’. Can the siding be painted or would it be better to replace? Should I try to simply fertilize the lawn or replace it? Any ideas on new color of house would be welcome. Thank you.

Is the siding aluminum or vinyl?

Depending on what kind of siding you have--it could be painted. Looks like early spring in this picture so I would fertilize the grass. I think this house already has great curb appeal. Looks neat, clean and well kept.

you don’t say if the siding is in good shape, I wouldn’t outdo think that would be the determining factor (along with budget) as to whether to paint or replace. There’s is very little you can do to change this style house into a farmhouse style without major construction. I would concentrate on adding curb appeal with more landscaping so the eye sees the landscape and skips the house.

Giving your driveway a makeover would make a huge difference. You could use a cement dye or lay pavers over existing slab. Maybe some garden lights and black mulch with some bright red or yellow flowers. You already have a great start.

The siding is a nice neutral color... Paint the door, garage door and shutters a nice COLOR.... such as a bright dusty teal... add some more color in the planting beds... your LOCAL nursery can tell you what will grow best in your area.. to give color for the greatest part of the year.... if you get snow... use colored pots... with evergreens planted in them...Teal, red, dark orange, or gold/yellow.... will add life.... the front door could go golden orange... ..something bright to welcome you in.

You could add adirondack chairs out front. Paint the shutters a light blue. Add planter boxes in windows (which you can also decorated seasonally). Flowering bushes In the corner

You may think about painting your door a bright color such as red. Siding can be painted but it will be a big job due to the height of your home. Add some nice bright colored perennials or annuals to your flower beds.

Power wash the siding and paint. I used Sherwin Williams Duration and it was fantastic. One coat coverage. I'm partial to light gray siding and red doors, but with your black shutters, a yellow door or a teal door would look great.

I think that your house is very nice and will look fantastic with a little love. Enjoy it!
