Landscaping fabric?

I looked up building a fire pit and found nothing about using landscape fabric under the fire pit. This article might be helpful:

I would not put it under the fire pit

Landscape fabric does a nice job for a year or two. Then everything you were trying to block finds a way. The previous owners of my house installed 100s of square feet of landscaping fabric. Weeds grew on top as the mulch broke down and the fabric is very accommodating to the roots. Lots of work to pull it out, turn it over until the weeds dry out, then remove the organic matter by pulling and stuff the fabric into trash bags. The fabric broke down over time and little pieces were left in the soil. They keep working their way to the surface in my garden. Do not get this stuff anywhere near fire.

I had that same question. I did not lay down the fabric as the heat may ignite it.

We built our fire pit into the ground and laid cement along the bottom and around the inside walls instead of using bricks all the way down. I would not want anything fabric close to the fire pit because of the danger of it igniting from a spark that could reach it.

Landscaping fabric is used to keep anything from growing underneath it. I do not think you need landscape fabric anywhere near the fire pit. Not sure if it is flammable , but that could make things orse. So, no, do not put landscape fabric under the area where you plan to build the fire pit.

The sand and rock will suffice, but cement would work better. NO fabric, would be my suggestion.
