I have had concrete and now have asphalt. I prefer concrete. Asphalt is cheaper but required a lot more maintenance. Concrete also lasts longer.Helpful Reply -

No contest, concrete is much better. Oil stains much easier to remove, HOT sunny days, it does NOT soften as asphalt does. Edges do not crumble, weeds will not grow up through it, if not treated before hand. I have had both. Asphalt requires re sealing every few years, and that's both expensive and if you do it yourself one big mess.Helpful Reply -

Asphalt is easier prep work and if ground is subjected to high water table and various sloping. Concrete is great for flatter and/or shorter areas.Helpful Reply -

I would like to add. I used redwood 2x4's to separate the sections of concrete that stop cracking, MUCH better, now 32 years and they are holding nicely. While the sections the contractor put in with the asphalt impregnated sort of fibre like separators have mostly deteriated leaving holes for dirt and seeds to collect and grow. I high pressure wash them out regularly in the summer. The 2x4's on the other hand are still doing their job. The smaller you make the sections, the less likely you will have cracking. I also learned that the hard way.Helpful Reply -
